Ceci Springs Janmark for First-Period Breakaway

The Edmonton Oilers fought off elimination once again on Friday night, defeating the Florida Panthers 5-3 on the road in Game 5 of their second-round playoff series. The Oilers now hold a 3-2 lead in the series, with Game 6 set for Sunday in Edmonton.

The Oilers got off to a fast start in Game 5, with Evan Bouchard scoring just 1:47 into the game. Cody Ceci then sprang Andreas Janmark on a breakaway for a goal later in the first period, giving the Oilers a 2-0 lead.

The Panthers fought back in the second period, with goals from Sam Bennett and Aleksander Barkov. However, the Oilers regained the lead in the third period on a goal from Zach Hyman.

The Panthers tied the game again on a goal from Carter Verhaeghe, but the Oilers took the lead for good on a goal from Connor McDavid with just over five minutes remaining in the game.

Mike Smith made 38 saves for the Oilers, while Sergei Bobrovsky stopped 27 shots for the Panthers.

The Oilers will now have a chance to close out the series on home ice in Game 6 on Sunday.
